Solent Squirrels Under 11

Isle of Wight Athletic Club took their Solent Squirrel under 11 teams to Eastleigh on Sunday to compete in the Hampshire Sportshall League a new venture for the club. With some of the youngest club members competing from the year 4 /5/6 age group 8 boys and 8 girls made up the teams.

Competing in many varied events both track and field the youngsters produced some excellent performances with the scores of the A and B competitors in each event added together to give the team score.

In a cold sportshall not condusive to top performances the boys gained 1st place in the vertical jump with Tom Beasley and Nico Ostler with many other good performances and a team overall 4th position only 10 points off 1st place. Other team members were Jake Guildford, Kieran Sibbick, Ben Holdsworth, Charlie Taylor, Tom Beasley and Mason Wherry.

The girls in the balance beam with Eden Crumplin and Lacey Matthews gained a 1st place and also 1st place in circuit relay with Elsie Lewis, Lacey Matthews, Bryony Tutty and Holly Whitter. The girls team gained 3rd place only 2point from 2nd place. Other Girls Team members were Amber Backhouse, Phillipa Andrews, Alisha Robinson, Ariella Richardson and Sapphire Prust.

Following the competition the following team members were offered places in the Hampshire Team to compete in the Regional Under 11 Sportshall Final at Crawley in February competing against Surrey, Berkshire, Jersey, Buckinghamshire, Kent and Oxfordshire.

Team manager Ray Scovell said these young athletes deserved their selection with 5 of the selected athletes being part of last seasons Quad Kids Island team.
